Dylan Harper Injury Update

During Sunday’s matchup against the Phoenix Suns, Harper — the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft — left the game in the first half after suffering a leg issue. While trying to contest a dunk by Nick Richards in the second quarter, Harper appeared to feel pain in his lower left leg, specifically his calf, grabbed at it, and limped off the floor toward the locker room.  The team announced at halftime that he would not return, and he was ruled out for the rest of the contest.

Before his exit, Harper had logged 11 minutes off the bench, scoring 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, showing the kind of impact that had made him an early stand-out.  Going into that game, he had been averaging 14.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in five appearances.

Calf injuries, as noted by team-medical discussion, are tricky: they can range from a mild strain requiring a few weeks of rest, to something more serious that sidelines a player for several months. Given his performance up to that point, the injury is a clear setback—not just for Harper himself, but for a Spurs squad already dealing with other absences.

At just 19 years old and already contributing significantly, Harper’s unexpected exit raises questions about how long he might be unavailable, how his rehab will be handled, and what it will mean for his development early in his NBA career. There’s no firm timeline yet from the team, and as is often the case with calf or leg injuries, the recovery path will depend on imaging, severity of the strain/tear, and how he responds to initial treatment.

For now, the key things to watch are: how the Spurs describe the injury (strain vs. tear), what the early testing reveals (MRI or ultrasound), and how they manage his minutes and load once he’s cleared to return. Harper was building strong momentum, and the hope will be that this is a shorter term bout rather than something that derails a bigger stretch of his rookie campaign.

In short: Harper had a promising outing before sustaining a calf injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s game, was ruled out mid-game, and now faces an uncertain recovery period. More updates will come once the Spurs provide further details.
